Accessibility
Read all about the accessibility of the Navy Museum in Den Helder.
Is the Navy Museum wheelchair accessible?
The museum buildings are wheelchair accessible. Unfortunately, our ships are not. Wheelchair users therefore have free access to the museum; tickets are available at the ticket desks. If you are unable to navigate the museum independently, you may bring a companion free of charge. Wheelchairs can be borrowed from the museum, but please reserve in advance.
The stairs in the buildings have handrails and there are elevators. The buildings are barrier-free and there are wheelchair-accessible restrooms. Folding stools are also available; these can be found in ‘t Torentje and in the Geschutmakerij.
Disabled parking spaces are available in P1 and P2.
Are assistance dogs allowed?
Dogs and other animals are not permitted in the museum, with the exception of assistance dogs (SOHO dogs) or guide dogs, provided they are kept on a leash.
Are there facilities for people with sensory sensitivity?
The Navy Museum currently has no special facilities for people who are sensitive to stimuli.
Quiet periods at the Navy Museum.
If you want to visit the museum during a quiet period, choose the months of January, February, March, and November. Avoid school holidays and the weekends around Easter and Pentecost, as they can be very busy.
The museum is often quieter between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM and from 3:00 PM onwards.
